520 Project Privacy Screen
Andrew visited Big Trees with pictures of his new backyard view courtesy of the 520 project. His family needed to add back the beauty and natural sound barrier taken away by the large tree removals. After considering all the privacy screen options, Andrew selected Leyland Cypress, a fast growing, dense evergreen. The difference is amazing. The family now has their privacy and natural sound barrier again.
The film crew from “Gardening with Ciscoe” visited Big Trees in Snohomish earlier in November, including Ciscoe Morris and Meeghan Black. They shot much of the show in the nursery, although many other topics and locations were also featured during the 30 minute episode. The program aired November 19th.
Big Trees Saves Viaduct Maples
Big Trees, Inc. was pulled into the Viaduct replacement project in late October with a mission of saving some of the large columnar maples planted close by. The large trees are approximately 30-35′ tall and provided a touch of landscape green, including beautiful fall colors to an otherwise all concrete structure.
Adjacent to the Viaduct, overlooking the bicycle and pedestrian trail, the large healthy maples will be re-used in a Port of Seattle project a few miles south, under the West Seattle Bridge. The trees have been owned and maintained by the Seattle Department of Transportation for many years but are imminently becoming part of the Viaduct demolition work by the General Contractor in charge of removing the old road structure, making way for the new tunnel.Read more
Big Trees Saves University Trees from Leveling
Big Trees Inc. has been contracted by the University of Washington to transplant 10 large trees on the campus otherwise slated for being cut down during a University construction project. Big Trees Inc. will be moving the trees from their current locations near a building that will be demolished, to other locations on campus.
The significant trees slated for moving are anywhere from 30′-45′ tall and weigh 25,000 to 45,000 lbs. each. The operation is currently underway, with Big Trees Tree transplant specialists hard at work. The University has begun a project to tear down old student housing to make room for new facilities with double the boarding capacity. The University is dedicated to retaining and saving their larger, significant trees whenever possible. Read whole story.
